The Vision

Imagine a Ghana where all people of all ages and abilities can access and enjoy places, services, activities and journeys that make up their daily lives without any barriers.

Imagine a Ghana where all people of all ages and abilities can access and enjoy places, services, activities and journeys that make up their daily lives without any barriers.

Visual and mobility impaired children will thrive in mainstream schools, discovering the world through learning and playing, just like every other child.

Mobility and hearing-impaired adults will live independent lives without fear of stigmatization. They will easily find jobs that are a good fit, earn a living and care for their children and dependents.

Aged adults using assistive devices will not be confined to their homes, they will go out and enjoy activities, visit tourist sites and the beaches.

How We Hope To Achieve

AccessAid exists to achieve this vision by helping private and public organisations create buildings, spaces and transport networks that are accessible and welcoming to all.

We do this through advocacy, technical and policy advice and training. We work with organisations to develop and implement high standards of accessible design/policies that balances user needs, costs, regulations and aesthetics.

Our Team is made up of a group of people with diverse backgrounds and abilities connected by our passion for a barrier-free Ghana.

If you would like to volunteer, or talk to us about making your school or organisation more accessible and inclusive. Get in touch.

What we do

Barrier-Free Schools

In Ghana, education is considered a right for all citizens. However, the 2010 population census shows that 20% of children with physical disabilities are not in school.

Access beyond the Ramp

Ramps are the most common accessibility feature found in buildings such as banks, government offices, health centres, shops, restaurants, and private corporate spaces.

Disability Awareness Campaign

Despite national policies and advocacy efforts to improve the lives of people with disabilities in Ghana, stigma remains a major challenge.
